You’re Not the Only One Feeling This

Maybe you’ve seen the headlines about AI replacing jobs and wondered what that actually means for you.

Maybe you’re part-way through studying or training for something and quietly asking yourself whether it’ll still matter.

Maybe you’re not even sure what kind of career you want yet — and all this talk about the future of work is making that feel harder, not easier.

That’s not a failure. That’s just where a lot of people your age are right now.

Next Tech Shift exists because those questions deserve honest answers — not hype, not panic, and not a list of buzzwords that leaves you more confused than when you started.

What is Next Tech Shift?

Next Tech Shift is a one-day online festival for people aged 16–24.

Through live talks, interactive workshops and Q&A sessions, you’ll meet employers, educators and professionals working across technology, digital and creative industries.

You’ll get a practical view of how work is changing, discover careers you may not have considered and explore the different routes into them.

Whether AI makes you feel curious, excited, unsure, or a bit of everything, you’re welcome.

What you’ll get from the day

You’ll find insights into how AI is changing different kinds of work, alongside first-hand perspectives on careers across technology, digital and creative industries. We’ll share honest career stories, including detours, setbacks and lessons learned, as well as practical ideas and resources to help you explore what comes next.

What we’ll explore

Find out which tasks are changing, what the headlines often miss and which human skills continue to matter.

Explore roles in cyber security, design, accessibility, marketing, product management, research, project delivery and more.

Hear how people got started, the challenges they encountered and what they would do differently if they were starting today.

Honest Conversations About Where Work Is Heading

AI and automation are already reshaping industries — but not always in the ways the headlines suggest. You’ll hear from people working alongside these tools every day, talking openly about what’s actually changing and what remains genuinely, stubbornly human.

Careers You Might Never Have Considered

Technology careers aren’t just for people who want to write code. Design, research, project delivery, marketing, accessibility, product management — there are more ways into this world than most people realise. And one of the things we hear most from young people is that they didn’t know a job existed until they stumbled across it. We’re going to change that.

Real Stories That Don’t Skip The Hard Parts

Not polished success stories. Honest ones. You’ll hear from people across Scotland and Northern England talking openly about how they got started, the setbacks they hit, and what they’d do differently. The kind of conversations that actually help.

Space To Ask The Questions You Actually Have

Live Q&A built into every session. No question is too basic. If you’re wondering it, someone else probably is too.
